Pinterest Video Not Downloading on iPhone
You tap download, Safari opens the video player, and no file ever lands in Files. This is the most common iPhone problem with Pinterest videos — and it has a simple fix.
Why it happens
Safari treats a direct media link as something to play, not something to save. When you tap a video link, Safari opens its player. That is normal browser behavior — it does not mean the video is broken or the pin is private. The fix is to download through a forced-download button instead of tapping the media link itself.
Fix it step by step
- Copy the pin link in the Pinterest app (Share, then Copy link).
- Open the video downloader, paste the link, and press Download.
- In the preview, tap the download button. If Safari plays the video instead, go back, long-press the download button, and choose Download Linked File.
- Open Files, check Downloads for the file, then move it to Photos if you want it in your library.
Expected result after each step: the preview loads with a download button; the file appears in Files under Downloads; the video plays from Files or Photos.
Still not working?
Check three things: the pin is public (private-board links never work), you pasted a pin link and not a board link, and Safari has not run out of storage. If the preview shows only a photo, the pin may be an Idea Pin delivered as a stream — see the Idea Pin problem page. If the preview itself fails, try the link again in a few minutes; Pinterest sometimes blocks a busy server temporarily.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Safari play the video instead of downloading it?
Safari plays media links directly. Use the download button on the video downloader page, or long-press it and choose Download Linked File, to force a real download to Files.
Where should the file appear?
In Files, under Downloads. From there you can move it to Photos.
Is the pin private?
If the pin comes from a private board or a protected account, it cannot be downloaded at all — the preview will say no media was found.
